THQ and developer Volition had a pretty solid presence on the Comic Con show floor by showing off a demo of Saints Row: The Third. Tucked inside a makeshift private theater “guarded” by pimps and Penthouse Pets, a very excited presenter showed off some of the new features the Saints will be bringing to the table this fall.

Unlike the previous two Saints Row installments, you’re immediately put at the top of the chain. After two installments, the Saints have created ..read more

The upcoming Gears of War 3 continues the Horde mode that Gears 2 started, and a playable demo was available on the Comic Con show floor. Obviously, the mode worked well enough in Gears 2 that Epic Games didn’t need any massive retooling for the third installment. A few rounds were available to play, so here’s just a quick preview of what was accomplished.

Despite not being a complete overhaul, the newly dubbed Horde 2.0 will introduce a larger strategic element ..read more

The title of Most Surprising Demo at Comic Con likely has to go to Mass Effect 3. A video would have been expected. But a hands-on demo? It’s a sign of how important games are becoming at Comic Con. This was the same demo shown at E3, but Comic Con provided its public hands-on debut.

The lenthy, 20-minute demo let me choose one of three classes: adept, sentinel or soldier. Sentinel was chosen to get the most general sense of how ..read more

With an incredible amount of Batman fans eagerly awaiting the 2012 release of The Dark Knight Rises, they’ll be easily taken care of with the upcoming Batman: Arkham City. Picking up where its predecessor Batman Arkham Asylum left off, Arkham City pits the Bat up against an entire city overrun by psychotic thugs.

Our Comic Con demo (which was the same used at E3) threw me right into a sticky situation for Catwoman. Dangling dangerously close to an acid pit, Two-Face ..read more

Activision’s upcoming Spider-Man: Edge of Time feels like it’s going to be a lot more of what we saw in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. While not a true sequel, it’s pulling ideas from the game by focusing on The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099.

The Amazing Spider-Man, the “standard” Spider-Man casual fans know of, is killed by a time traveller from 2099. The killer is a scientist named Walter Sloan, from the corrupt scientific company Alchemax. Not content with his present, he ..read more

Over the years the Need For Speed franchise has taken many turns. Some games have been better than others.

It is safe to say though that with this Need For Speed: The Run, the series is taking a much more Hollywood approach. The Run is a race from San Francisco to New York. Your character Jack Rourke is in a little bit of trouble with the Mob. He needs to win this race, and he needs ..read more

Forza Motorsport 4 is easily one of my most anticipated games for this year. I am a huge fan of what Turn 10 has done with the series thus far, and it seems like for the fourth installment they’re looking to make the best possible racing game in the genre. It’s a lofty goal, but with what I’ve seen of the game so far, they’re well on their way to doing that. There is a lot to ..read more

One liner: The game is well worth the wait!

The sequel the world has been waiting 14 years for is finally approaching its release. Since 1997, Duke has been partaking in a little vacation and his trigger finger has itched long enough. Maintaining the first person shooter style of gameplay originally introduced to the series in Duke Nukem 3D, Forever also delivers many familiar features sure to bring back fond memories to veteran gamers. One can hope the King can appeal ..read more

This February, co-developer People Can Fly (Painkiller) is leveraging Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 for Bulletstorm, a FPS that makes other FPSes wet their pants and cry themselves to sleep. At least that’s the attitude this game brings to the table.

In reality, during our very short time with the Bulletstorm demo, we got the impression that while the game is delivering absolutely over-the-top action, it’s doing it all tongue-in-cheek. It’s as if Duke Nukem Forever is really releasing next ..read more

While 2009 saw five Guitar Hero games released, two within three months of each other, the need for new titles in 2010 has some gamers feeling worn out.  But with new instruments (keyboard, advanced drum kit) and a new take on the Guitar Hero franchise, both Activision and Harmonix are looking to make 2010 the year that their respected franchises go beyond just simple button presses and branch out to include gamers of all ages.

The selling point of both games ..read more

When you think of the game BioShock, naturally many think of that underwater utopian society that tragically fell to the pressures of genetic splicing and the mind of Andrew Ryan.  While the sequel focused its sights on new characters and events, Bioshock still took place in the fallen city of Rapture, a beautifully created city filled with Big Daddies, Little Sisters and plenty of other dangerous things looking to kill you quickly.  But Irrational Games’ latest project is taking the ..read more

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment wasted no time today in revealing the latest sequel to 2009’s critically acclaimed action-adventure title, Batman: Arkham Asylum.  Rocksteady’s title saw Batman return to dominant form, and alongside polished visuals, superb voice acting, and a steady dose of investigating and brutal pummeling, Arkham Asylum proved to be one of the best titles of last year.

Well now fans have a reason to get excited for 2011 as Batman: Arkham City is now confirmed and ..read more

Despite Comic Con being somewhat limited on game preview selection, we were able to get through a demo of the upcoming Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions on the showroom floor. Spidey games typically are hit or miss types of games: the movie tie-ins have been misses, but independent titles have garnered a bit more success. But the underlying problem with the games has been the combat. Button-mashing, button-mashing, swing, and button-mashing. After getting through the Dimensions demo, it looks like that trend ..read more

In the Gears of War series, The Locust have always seemed like such a bully. Sure, they’re trying to completely eviscerate any traces of human life, and they pop up from the ground and swallow cities, but have we really taken the time to get to know what they are really like? No, and because they’re alien bastards they can still stick it. But that’s no reason why we can’t play as them, right? So ditching any reason, Epic is ..read more

knightnaadaday

Just saw an advert for Knight and Day, the new Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz flick. What the hell is going on? The tone of this trailer is all over the place and leaves it feeling like an ad for a awful tv show nevermind a bad movie.

Is it meant to be funny? It’s not very funny but it seems to want to be funny. The action looks like the cheesy unnecessary overuse of cgi we’ve seen for years. It tells us ..read more

The first run of the European Console League happens next week in Liverpool.

The tournament runs from July 30th to August 1st. Games featured include COD4, Halo 3, GoW, Fifa 2010 and a little game called Super Street Fighter IV.

The Super tourney runs on the Saturday only, runs all day and now only costs £10 to enter! This is not too shabby considering that the original price for entering for SSFIV was £50.

That was dropped to £25 and then finally they ..read more
