On Thursday, Oct. 5, the world lost a great innovator of technology.

Steven Paul Jobs will be remembered by most people as an esteemed founder CEO of Apple. His inventions, the “Mac,” iPod, iPhone, and iPad are all household names that are revolutionary because of their visual aesthetics and accessibility.

According to a release provided by the Jobs family, Jobs passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

It takes quite a lot to really annoy me when it comes to PC DRM schemes. One time activation of games before playing isn’t too onerous. I can tolerate Games for Windows Live and its attempts to shoehorn console conventions onto the PC. But one thing I can’t tolerate is Ubisoft’s ridiculous draconian always-on DRM.

Nintendo uses their press conference to celebrate The Legend of Zelda’s 25th Anniversary, give a shot in the arm for the Nintendo 3DS’ fall lineup, and unveil their next console, the Wii U.

Sony apologized to everybody for the damages caused by the PlayStation Network outage, talked about a ton of PS3 games, and announced key details for the Vita’s upcoming launch.

In an interesting off-year for Microsoft, they get to focus on games for the Xbox 360 and Kinect. Lots of demos, a few game announcements, and some Xbox Live news topped the majority of what Microsoft had to announce.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Activision will be introducing a subscription-based online service for their Call of Duty franchise. Pricing in less than $8/month, the service—named Call of Duty Elite—will supposedly offer subscribers exclusive extra content as well as advanced gameplay tracking tools they can’t get anywhere else. Though nobody expected a Cleveland Brown to win EA’s Madden NFL 12 Cover Tournament, the Cleveland Browns fanbase pulled through for running back Peyton Hillis to earn the cover of Madden NFL 12 with a huge 66% of the vote. This week it was revealed that Microsoft’s Kinect may be last to the game but is certainly not least among the Big Three’s motion sensing technology.
