During the heyday of the PS2’s success, no companies dominated the mainstream market more than Insomniac (Ratchet and Clank, Resistance), Naughty Dog (Jak and Daxter, Uncharted) and Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper, Infamous). While those companies now have a much bigger impact on the PS3, the nostalgia deriving from the characters these companies created back on the PS2 has not been forgotten and there will probably never be a greater collection of iconic cartoonish characters for any system ever again.

The surprises just don’t seem to end here in Los Angeles. Aside from the Lakers winning, we have some titles suddenly being added to our “Upcoming Releases” list.

Amidst all the hype surrounding E3 2010 are huge first party announcements. At Microsoft, we have the Kinect along with the new and improved Xbox 360. With Sony, we have their interesting PlayStation Move, insane exclusive content, and their new premium online service. And with Nintendo, we got the 3DS.
But while Iwata seemed to go on and on about all the support the 3DS is getting, he didn’t seem to get in-depth with the games worth mentioning, so feast your ..read more
The original Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age for the Game Boy Advance were two titles that received critical acclaim and eventually grew into cult hits. The games featured graphics and sound that were otherwise unimaginable on a handheld and without a doubt pushed the Game Boy Advance to its technical limit. It’s been seven years since The Lost Age came out, and ever since the long-rumored third entry in the series was unveiled at last year’s Nintendo ..read more
Nintendo fans put their heads down in disappointment last year when Nintendo’s E3 2009 Press Conference simply focused on their casual audience of gamers. The Legend of Zelda was expected to make a timely appearance, but instead, everyone was met with a poster that featured Link and a ghost facing opposite sides. It wasn’t until a year later that the cat was let out of the bag.
Nintendo opened their much-anticipated conference with footage of Zelda through the years and ending ..read more

I have no luck traveling. While traveling back to New York from visiting the family in Denver for Christmas, I found myself stranded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, unable to catch my connecting flight.
I shouldn’t have been surprised when that same bad luck found me while traveling to E3 this year.
Since you might like to know what it’s like to travel to E3, here’s a taste of my travel day.

Dead Space and Dead Space: Extraction were two tense, very well put together survival shooter games published by our new old friend EA. Extraction was a Wii-exclusive prequel that set the stage for the hero of the hour Isaac Clarke, an engineer who most likely spent a lot of time at his local shooting range to relieve the stresses of work. There, he undoubtedly honed skills that allowed him to turn his engineering equipment into deadly limb-severing instruments ..read more

This year’s E3 may be the most important since the 2006 E3 before the launch of the PS3 and Wii since we have a number of hardware announcements that will affect these platforms for the next few years. Sony and Microsoft have new motion control peripherals that are seeking to bring a new audience to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo and Sony have successors to their current handhelds to announce and/or reveal. Then there are the third ..read more
Sort of. In a fascinating article entitled “Hooked on Gadgets, and Paying a Mental Price,” The New York Times takes an in-depth look at the effects of multi-tasking and digital addiction on mental capacity. While not all of the finding are positive, among the most interesting are these two points:
Technology use can benefit the brain in some ways, researchers say. Imaging studies show the brains of Internet users become more efficient at finding information. And players of some video games ..read more
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the direct sequel to the Wii’s wildly successful 2007 release. It’s also the first direct sequel to a Super Mario game since Super Mario World 2 on the Super NES, so the expectations of quality for the game are high.
Being a typical Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy 2 doesn’t offer much in terms of story. The game has you once again play the role of everyone’s favorite red-suited plumber as he makes his way to ..read more
