When you first meet John Marston aboard the train from Blackwater Station there is much to answer. How did he get those scars? Why is a man dressed as a cowboy so dutifully taking a train across the barren, untamed lands of New Austin? As you leave the train and take a glimpse of the vast lands ahead of Marston, you soon know why. Read Dead Redemption is all about survival, and people who are not quick to adapt will ..read more
With a number of games with twists to the brick-breaking formula having appeared on PSN in the past year, it’s surprising to see that nothing more traditional has been released on PSN in the last three years. Hyperballoid HD is the new PS3 iteration of a PC line of Arkanoid clones from Alawar Entertainment, which offers about 100 new levels for just $4.99. While the game is cheap, it does come with some unfortunate issues that keep it from being ..read more
Atlus is back on the PSP with another RPG from the developers behind Knights in the Nightmare and Riviera: The Promised Land. Hexyz Force offers an interesting way to experience the stories of its two main characters, which is to play two separate campaigns to get both sides of the story. While the game may not do much else that’s unique, Hexyz Force may be worth a look for the two 20+ hour stories you get in this package.

It looks like there is hope for this godforsaken industry after all. For years we had to deal with crappy licensed games and sequels. And in the middle of a recession where companies are cutting corners as often as employees (though that’s been slowly changing), EA recently announced that they “beat their revenue expectations for the fourth quarter.” Why should you care? Because EA did so after making a point to improve the quality of their games.

A couple of years ago, when the original iPhone was still a week away from release, I wrote a pretty ballsy article entitled Sony, Not Nintendo, Should Be Very Afraid of the iPhone, in which I outlined a number of reasons why the iPhone could flip the mobile gaming market on its head. For the most part, I was right. It’s still a hell of a different experience than what we’re used to on the DS and PSP, but sales ..read more
Ah, spring. We’re bordering on summer. It’s the perfect time for… football. Yes, in the thick of NBA and NHL playoff runs, and with baseball picking up steam, Tecmo has released Tecmo Bowl Throwback for Xbox Live (PlayStation Network has to deal with waiting for a bit). Note the “throwback” portion of the title. It signifies it’s not a straight port of Tecmo Super Bowl and is instead a slightly updated version.
What you’ll be getting is essentially what you got ..read more
When THQ released UFC Undisputed 2009 last year, UFC and game fans alike were treated with the first really enjoyable mixed-martial arts game. We recently got our hands with a demo that was only released to the press and UFC online member community, and the game is shaping up to provide the most realistic experience yet.
To do this, the developers gave the fighter models even better physical details during gameplay. Nearly all the trailers of the game reflect real-time gameplay, ..read more
We, like many of you out there, had the opportunity to get into the Halo: Reach beta ahead of the scheduled public release. As huge Halo fans, we’ve been playing Halo games religiously for the last decade or so since Halo 1. We absolutely love Halo’s campaign, story, but most of all, its multiplayer. That’s why it hurts us so much to say that Halo: Reach is currently broken.
Granted, the game is in its beta stage, and will undoubtedly go ..read more
