Following quite a few other remakes of PS1 RPGs, XSeed Games has taken on the task of bringing Lunar: Silver Star Story to the PSP with redone voice acting, music, and visuals. Lunar: Silver Star Harmony attempts to combat the intense nostalgia that many players had for the original version while also offering a chance for new players to experience one of the more popular RPGs from the PlayStation generation. We got our hands on the recent demo to see ..read more
Death by Cube is yet another in a growing genre of two-stick arcade shooters in the vein of Geometry Wars. Early sneak peeks had us excited to experience more depth and story than other titles in the category, and the fact that Square Enix was the publisher behind it just made fans’ mouths water a little more in anticipation. So, is Death by Cube a resounding success worthy of its publisher’s pedigree or simply a miscarried me-too that ..read more
Army of Two debuted back in 2008 and brought with it a new tactical form of gunplay mayhem starring only you and your partner. While two players taking on an entire army might have seemed highly improbable, the gameplay worked quite well and the characters only added to the atmosphere that gave Army of Two a breath of fresh air in the repetitive nature of modern day shooters. Improving on this idea was EA Montreal, the team behind the original ..read more
Those who followed our coverage from the latest E3 were treated with an unfamiliar, yet interesting sight—Link navigating with a train. A train in Hyrule? As random as that may seem, it’s one of the central components of gameplay in the latest Zelda game, and it doesn’t take away from the fun you’ll have from this title.
If the train doesn’t interest you, and it probably doesn’t, we’ll just let the cat of the bag now. In The Legend of Zelda: ..read more
The Shin Megami Tensei series has been around for quite a long time, though most of the games we’ve seen from Atlus have been in the Persona, Digital Devil Saga, and Devil Summoner spin-off series. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is part of the mainline series with more of a roguelike style to how it plays out than the more prolific and traditional SMT role-playing games like Persona. After a good ten hours, we’re enjoying what we’ve played of the ..read more
Matt Hazard made his return to the gaming scene last year in the aptly titled Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard that came out on the home consoles. Unfortunately many people missed the point of the game entirely. Eat Lead was a game with a stereotypical video game action hero taking on stereotypical gaming clichés. It was done as both a satire and homage to those games. The bigger problem was that nobody ..read more

Fresh off their success of Empire: Total War, Creative Assembly is looking to propel the series into a new direction and become more user-friendly for all gamers. With such a wide range of time periods to choose from and heroic characters to showcase, none seems more fit than that of Napoleon Bonaparte and his famous expeditions of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Unlike Empire: Total War, one of the biggest new draws is that multiplayer will be available to play right ..read more
When you’re not near a TV and PS3, the need to test your knowledge of useless trivia with friends or coworkers and the new Buzz game on the PSP is there to fill that niche. Buzz! Quiz World is the first PSP entry in the series that is supposed to be identical to its PS3 counterpart, but all is not well with this version. This particular version falls short in a few key areas to keep it from living up ..read more
I’d like to introduce myself, I am Gianni Motisi, any more information and we may have to get married so without further adieu let us commence with the flow of thoughts that entered my brain. It was a long and strange year for me. I left World of Warcraft for personal reasons but often found myself throughout the months having what seemed like veteran war flashbacks. I would be at work when all of a sudden I would have a ..read more
Airtight Games and Capcom are taking a huge risk making a game that revolves around Aerial Combat. We all know how the Superman series has worked out. On the flip side, there are many games that do get flying right. We hope Dark Void is going to be one of the latter.
The demo started us out with a quick cutscene that provided absolutely no background to the story minus how the protagonist finds his ..read more
Capcom Unity ran their playtest event for Super Street Fighter IV last night.
Players got to try out some of the new cast, as well as seeing what tweaks have been made to existing characters. The build being played yesterday was the one with the 4 blank character slots, so anyone worried about the recent post-famitsu stream pic with those 4 blank slots removed can now calm down.
Some of the new ultras were tested out by the community and uploaded to ..read more

To be honest, we here at SmashPad are not big fans of the whole Game of the Year concept that every site uses when the end of the year arrives. Rather than getting together to discuss and/or argue about what games should or shouldn’t win the many categories we could come up with so we can find a way to give smaller games a shot at winning something, we decided to just highlight our favorite games of the year by ..read more
