If the old saying “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” had any indication on how developers felt than Sony should be extremely thrilled to know that Dante’s Inferno is a very flattering God of War title.  That’s not to say Dante’s Inferno copies God of War exactly down to the tee, but it does borrow heavily in the most important aspect of the game: combat.  Whichever way you see it, Dante’s Inferno still has plenty of neat, original ideas ..read more

PixelJunk(TM) Shooter_7

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a new PixelJunk game from Q-Games, which has mostly been due to terrific support for PixelJunk Monsters and Eden along with the PSP port of Monsters in the past year. PixelJunk Shooter is their latest game in the popular series of PSN game that coincidentally is their take on the shooter genre, particularly in the vein of games like Gravitar and Sub-Terrania. The result is another great PixelJunk game ..read more

This generation has been nice to old games and concepts as there’s a lot of promise for their art styles to reach their full potential in HD. Just Add Water has taken the gameplay of Gravitar and added Geometry Wars-style vector visuals to make Gravity Crash for PSN. The result is a beautiful shooter with more elaborate levels to play around in.

Gravity Crash takes place during a war in space between two factions when all of the forces ..read more

Well, according to IGN the release date for Super Street Fighter IV will be March 31st 2010.

This has since been reflected on Amazon and Newegg, although no one really knows if they’re just taking IGN’s word for it.

The game is being listed at $39.99 for both PS3 and XBox 360 on Amazon.com. On Amazon.co.uk the pricing is coming in at £24.99 for PS3 and £29.99 for 360.

Hopefully that is remedied, seems a bit crap to be paying a fiver more ..read more

Madden NFL Arcade

While the folks at EA have tried their hand at an arcade football game for a while now, but it has taken until now that they captured the Blitz style of simplicity. Madden NFL Arcade is a much more simple game overall than recent Maddens have been and that makes for an arcadey experience that can really be a lot of fun in multiplayer.

Madden NFL Arcade does trim down what you expect from the traditional NFL experience that football fans ..read more

So, for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t know me that well; the Smashing Pumpkins were the band who opened my eyes to music.

I still rank their 1995 double album, Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness as my favourite album of all time, despite the fact that I have not listened to it for some time.

I feel that the album perfectly manages to convey a number of emotions while traversing an immense sonic landscape.

Anyway, now it’s years later. Following Jimmy ..read more

When Assassin’s Creed released back in 2007, fans got to taste just a sample of the possibilities that Ubisoft imagined.  With amazing visuals, stunning locations and gameplay that revolutionized how we play and imagine games today, Assassin’s Creed proved to be more popular than anyone imagined.  How exactly would Ubisoft be able to top that monstrous effort?  By making the sequel bigger, bolder and an all-around better game than its predecessor, which is exactly what Assassin’s Creed 2 is.

PopCap Games is known for making easy to pick up and play games that are very difficult to stop playing. Square Enix is a company known for making long character-driven RPGs with epic albeit somewhat clichéd storylines. Putting these two companies together on a project could yield one of the most addicting games ever created, or a muddled mess of blandness. In the case of Gyromancer the latter turns out to be the case.

At its heart Gyromancer ..read more

With Peggle’s release on PSN recently, PopCap Games finally dropped the Peggle Nights expansion on both PSN and XBLA to let players add more levels to their games. Peggle Nights features an interesting take on the adventure mode along with more challenges to test your skills even further.

To take a quick detour, the reason this isn’t a review of the PSN version of Peggle is that it’s the same game as the XBLA version. The only new features ..read more

The PSP has seen a lot of console franchises make a good transition to the portable system this year. Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines certainly makes a lot of fundamental changes that should’ve made for a great PSP version of the parkour sandbox franchise, but the execution left a lot to desire.

Bloodlines takes place right after the first Assassin’s Creed as Altair has traveled to the island of Cyprus in the search for more Templars. Specifically, the game takes ..read more
